Varenna is one of the easiest places to get to on the lake!

Being situated on the Eastern shore of Lake Como, is relatively straightforward if flying into Milan Bergamo or Milan Linate Milan Malpensa is a slightly longer journey being on the west side of Milan.

Driving from Orio al Serio (Milan Bergamo Airport) to Casa Varenna (69.4km)

Heading out of the Car Hire parking lot, turn right and follow the signs for Lecco (38km away), getting onto the SS671, come off the autostrade following signs for SS470 Lecco, then onto SS342 to Lecco and then the SS639. When you arrive in Lecco, follow signs for Sondrio and go down into the tunnel on the SS36. For a speedy journey continue on the autostrade and ignore the signs to Varenna / Fiumelatte - this is the slower lake road. Stay on the autostrade and after approx. 15 min's (24km) you come off at the exit 'Bellano' (a town 10 min's. north of Varenna). Be careful not to miss the sign for Bellano - it hangs down from the roof of one of the many tunnels you will drive through along the motorway. After the exit slipway, turn right and take the road all the way down to Bellano - at the T-juntion, turn left onto SP72 and follow the lakeside road to Varenna and Piazza San Giorgio. Park your car in either a blue (ticket required*) or white space (free parking). In the square, look towards the 'Albergo del Sol' and take the cobbled path down by the left of the building. Walk for 100m or so and you will see casa Varenna (a bright mustard coloured house) on the left hand side - Google Map Link
